In simple words, HECI is the center of higher education in India. ‘Super Power’ Or ‘single regulator’ will be. Under the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), the government plans to replace all these and create a single institution – HECI.

This means- “One Nation, One Education Regulator.”

What will be the benefit to students and colleges?

  1. Simple rules: Presently the university has to go to someone else for grant (money) and to someone else for recognition. After HECI comes, everything will be under one roof.
  2. Less Paperwork: The system will be fast. Permission to open new colleges or start new courses will be available soon, which will directly benefit the students.
  3. Transparency: When a single institution will take complete command, the arbitrariness of colleges will reduce and the standard of education will improve.

When can it be implemented?

Media reports are saying that the Education Ministry will introduce this bill in the Parliament. Winter Session (November-December) I can present. If this bill is passed, it will be the biggest administrative change in the Indian education system after independence.

However, it is also being said that Medical and legal education (law studies) These should probably be kept out of this because they have their own unique and complex rules. But everything else—arts, science, management, engineering—can now come under the ambit of HECI.
