The state government has taken a very big and historic decision in the direction of connecting school students of Uttarakhand with technical and employment-oriented education. Now students studying from Uttarakhand Board will not have to go through any kind of complex entrance exam to take admission in polytechnic diploma courses. The government has made the rules very easy and has made a provision for direct admission to the students.

Under this new decision, students who have passed Intermediate (12th) from Uttarakhand Board will get admission in Polytechnic directly in the second year (Direct Second Year Admission) through lateral entry. Along with this, students who have passed high school (10th) will also not have to give any entrance examination for admission in the first year of Polytechnic.

Historic agreement signed between Secondary and Technical Education Department

To implement this new system, a high level meeting was held in the dignified presence of Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat in the SCERT auditorium, Dehradun. In this meeting, Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati, Director of Secondary Education Department and Deshraj, Director of Technical Education Department signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Under this important agreement, government inter colleges of the state will be linked with their nearest and selected government polytechnic institutions. Its biggest advantage will be that school students will be able to get seats directly in government polytechnic colleges without any rush or difficult admission process, so that they will be able to become self-reliant by getting technical education in time.

On the occasion of signing of the MoU, State Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat expressed happiness and said that this unique and far-reaching initiative will prove to be a milestone in making the youth of the state skilled and opening new doors of employment for them. After this decision, not only will students’ inclination towards technical courses increase, but better and 100 percent utilization of modern resources and labs available in the polytechnic institutes of the state will also be ensured. On this special occasion, many top officials of the department including Technical Education Council Secretary Mukesh Pandey and Joint Director Alok Mishra were present.

What are the new rules for polytechnic admission?

According to the new guidelines issued by the government, now students will get the benefit of the following rules for admission:

  • Direct admission after 10th: Students who have passed high school will now be eligible for direct admission to the first year of engineering diploma course of the polytechnic without any entrance examination.

  • Entry into second year directly after 12th: Students passing Intermediate (Science/Technical stream) will be directly admitted to the second year of Polytechnic, thereby saving their precious time.

  • Freedom from complicated process: Students will no longer have to go through counseling and lengthy admission processes, they will get admission in a transparent manner on the basis of merit and board marks directly through the linking system of colleges.
