On Monday, while the Russian Ambassador to the UN Security Council strongly defended Iran, President Vladimir Putin met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in St. Petersburg and announced his full support.
Russia cornered western countries in UNSC
At the UN Security Council meeting, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia strongly supported Iran’s right to limit movement in the Strait of Hormuz. He directly accused Western countries of hypocrisy and piracy, saying that the pressure strategy against Iran is a violation of international law.
Putin held Iran’s hand, praised Iranians
In this important meeting held in St. Petersburg, Putin praised the Iranian people and said that Iranians have shown bravery and valor to protect their sovereignty. Araghchi also held talks with the leadership of Oman and Pakistan ahead of the meeting and flew straight to Russia after a brief visit to Islamabad.
Putin said – Russia will do everything possible for peace
During the meeting, Putin clearly said that Russia is ready to take every possible step to ensure peace in West Asia as soon as possible. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was also present in the meeting. Putin also said he had received a personal message from Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei last week and asked Araghchi to convey his gratitude and good wishes to Khamenei.
Araghchi said – The world has seen the strength of Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said after this meeting that during the war with America, the whole world saw the real strength of Iran and the courage of the Iranian people. He said that one thing has become very clear from this meeting that Iran has a reliable friend and ally like Russia. He also extended warm greetings to the Russian leadership on behalf of Supreme Leader Khamenei and President Massoud Pezeshkian.
Russia is ready to play the role of mediator
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov later issued a statement saying that the talks between Putin and Araghchi were completely successful. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also clarified that Russia is fully ready to provide any kind of mediation services acceptable to both sides. According to Iran’s government news agency IRNA, despite some progress in the first round of talks, the talks could not move forward due to America’s attitude.
