The last date for all 10 teams to retain and release their players ended at 3 pm today. The market remained hot with news of trades and releases throughout the day, in which the biggest and shocking news came from a historic trade between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Under this big trade, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson will now be seen playing in the yellow jersey of Chennai Super Kings, while Ravindra Jadeja, one of CSK’s biggest match winners, has returned home to his old team Rajasthan Royals.

This trade is considered to be one of the biggest trades in IPL history. Chennai Super Kings have included Sanju Samson in their team for a huge amount of Rs 18 crore. Many surprising names have emerged in today’s retention list. Teams have decided to increase their purse and release many expensive players as part of the new strategy.

Due to mini auction this year, there was no restriction on teams to retain players. Teams could retain as many players as they wanted, they just had to keep in mind the salary cap of Rs 120 crore and the squad size of 25 players. The players who have been released will now take part in the mini auction to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16, 2025. This time there will be no Right-to-Match (RTM) card option in the auction, which means teams will not have any exclusive right to buy back their old players.
