IND vs ENG: Batsmen ran on the pitch, five run penalty on India, know what are the rules

Pitch Penalty: The third test match between India and England is being played in Rajkot. India have been fined five runs as a result of the second offense of running on the pitch by a batsman during a Test. This meant that England would score five runs without a wicket before a single ball was bowled at the start of their first innings.

Five run penalty on India

Team India has been punished for a big mistake of Indian team's star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. India's Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel were batting in the first session of the second day. Rihan Ahmed was bowling the 102nd over of Team India's innings for England. Ashwin played the ball on the third ball of his over and ran to score runs. For which the field umpire blamed Ashwin for running in the danger area and imposed a penalty of five runs on Team India. With this, five runs were added to the account of the England team. Now when England starts its innings, despite having zero balls and zero wickets, it will add five runs to its score board on the very first ball.

What are the rules?

If you are found guilty of running between pitches, the umpire warns you the first time and you are penalized the second time. So on the first day of this match, when Ravindra Jadeja was batting at the crease, he also accidentally ran into the middle of the pitch. At that time, the field umpire had given the first warning to Team India for running in the middle of the pitch and when Ashwin did the same, the umpire imposed a penalty of five runs on the Indian team.

In this match, India has so far scored 424 runs after losing 9 wickets in 126 overs in the first innings. Rohit Sharma's 131 runs and Ravindra Jadeja's 112 runs are also recorded in this.
