There is a big and relief news for the people facing record breaking heat and suffocating humidity in many parts of North and Central India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a new alert of strong thunderstorm, lightning and heavy rain in a large part of the country today i.e. on 13 June 2026.
According to meteorologists, this sudden major change is being seen in the weather due to the activation of a new Western Disturbance and increasing speed of the south-west monsoon. Within the next few hours, the weather pattern may change completely in at least 17 states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi-NCR.
Alert of heavy rain and storm in these states
The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts for different parts of the country depending on their geographical location. Let us understand from the table given below what the weather condition is going to be in your area today:
What is the real reason for sudden change in weather?
Weather experts say that the reason behind the change in weather in North India at this time is mainly a cyclonic circulation over ‘North-Western Haryana’ and its surrounding areas, which is continuously getting energy from western disturbances.
Along with this, the south-west monsoon is also moving forward at its normal pace. Within the next two to three days, the conditions have become completely favorable for the monsoon to hit the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and some more areas of Bihar-Jharkhand. This is the reason why the moist winds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are causing cold showers in the plains, due to which the maximum temperature may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Important advice from Meteorological Department (Public Advisory)
In view of the increasing incidents of storm and lightning, IMD has issued some safety guidelines for common citizens, which are very important to follow:
-
Stay away from trees and hoardings: Never stand under large trees, electric poles or weak signboards during a strong storm, as these are at the highest risk of falling.
-
Keep electronic items off: During lightning, unplug valuable electronic equipment from home and avoid going near open water sources.
-
Caution while driving: Visibility on the roads can suddenly reduce due to dust storms, so while driving on highways or roads, keep fog lights on and control the speed.
