“I will come to India…Modi is my friend!” Donald Trump praised, but also made two big claims

Former US President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump has once again said big things about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During a press conference, he described PM Modi as his “friend” and a “great person” and said that he would visit India soon. But at the same time, he has also made two such big claims which have sparked debate.

What did Trump say on buying oil from Russia?

When Trump was asked about the ongoing trade talks with India, he said, “Talks are going well. He (PM Modi) has almost stopped buying oil from Russia. He is my friend, and we talk. He wants me to go there… I will go.”

This claim of Trump is important because America has been continuously expressing its concern over India buying crude oil from Russia. America has imposed restrictions on Indian imports regarding this issue. Huge tariff of 50 percent Is also installed. However, according to Indian government data, Russia is still one of the largest oil suppliers to India.

When Trump was directly asked whether he was planning to visit India next year, he replied, “Maybe, yes.”

“I stopped the India-Pakistan war!”

In the same press conference, Trump, patting himself on the back, once again repeated his claim that he had prevented a major war between India and Pakistan. He said, “If you look at India and Pakistan, they started fighting… they were two nuclear armed countries… 8 planes were shot down… and I said, ‘Listen, if you guys are going to fight, I will put tariffs on you’.”

Trump further claimed, “They were not happy about it and within 24 hours, I started the war. I couldn’t have done it if I didn’t have the power of tariffs.”

Overall, Trump’s statements have once again brought India-US relations, global politics and his personal diplomacy into the spotlight. While his promise to visit India may be important for relations between the two countries, his claims remain a subject of discussion and analysis as always.
