News India Live, Digital Desk: BC Reservation Protest: Today, if you are thinking of going out in Telangana, then you may face some trouble, because many organizations have jointly announced a bandh in the state. There may be silence on the streets and shops etc. may also remain closed. But the question is, why has this bandh been called?
The matter is related to reservation. There is a demand for 42% reservation in local body elections for Backward Classes (BC) in Telangana. People of backward classes say that they should get this much reservation as per their population, only then they will be able to get their rightful share in politics.
But where is the catch?
The real problem is coming because of an old decision of the Supreme Court. The court had said that in any case the total reservation cannot exceed 50%. Now if 42% reservation is given to the backward classes, then including the reservation of other castes (SC/ST), this figure will cross 50%.
There is complete opposition regarding this very thing. Backward class organizations are putting pressure on the government to find a way, so that the hurdle of 50% limit can be removed and they can get 42% reservation. They say that this is a fight for their rights.
A bandh has been organized today with this demand, so that their voice can reach the government more strongly. So today, if you have difficulty in going out, then you will understand that this matter is related to reservation of backward classes.
