News India Live, Digital Desk: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a revolutionary step for the new academic session 2026-27. Putting the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) on the ground, the board has announced the release of a new curriculum for students from class 9th to 11th. Today i.e. on April 2 at 3 pm, the details of this new syllabus will be presented to the country through a special webinar. The biggest objective of this change is to free students from ‘rote’ learning and take them towards ‘skill-based’ learning.
Leave to rote learning, emphasis on understanding
The traditional education system that has been prevalent for years, in which students used to memorize facts just to pass exams, is about to become a thing of the past. In this syllabus prepared under the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF-SE) of NCERT, emphasis has been laid on in-depth understanding of the concepts. Now, instead of asking direct questions in the examinations, more ‘case study’ and ‘application based’ questions will be asked, so that it can be known how much the student has actually understood the subject.
Inclusion of modern topics: AI and coding included
Classes 9 and 11 are considered the foundation of a student’s career. Keeping this in view, future needs have been taken care of in the new curriculum. Along with bookish knowledge, students now Artificial Intelligence (AI), Coding, Financial Literacy and Vocational Training Like it will be linked to modern topics. With this, students will be equipped not only with a degree but also with practical skills when they leave school.
Major changes in assessment method
The board has made it clear that now only the 3-hour written examination held at the end of the year will not be the measure of the student’s ability. Under the new curriculum, activities done throughout the year, project work, classroom presentation and practical knowledge will be given special importance in the result. This means that now there will be continuous assessment of the student’s progress through ‘Formative Assessment’.
New strategy for teachers and schools
To implement this big change, CBSE has also instructed schools and teachers to change their teaching methodology. Now ‘Active Learning’ and ‘Group Discussion’ will be given priority in the classroom. Teachers will be specially trained to bring out the creativity and logical thinking (Critical Thinking) hidden within the students.
