In Sanatan Dharma, Pradosh fast is considered very good and fruitful for worshiping Lord Shiva. According to religious beliefs, whichever devotee worships Mahadev with true heart on this day, all the difficult troubles of his life go away. Usually this fast is observed on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha of every month. But this time Pradosh fast is very special, because this holy fast is falling during Purushottam month (Adhikamas).

According to the Panchang, a fast will be observed on the Trayodashi date of Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha to seek the blessings of Devadhidev Mahadev. The scriptures say that due to the effect of this fast, the negative energy of life is completely eliminated and the sleeping luck also shines. By worshiping as per rituals on this day, a person gets relief from all three types of troubles – physical, mental and financial.

According to religious rules, the worship of Pradosh Vrat is always in the evening i.e. Pradosh Kaal (time just after sunset). Therefore, it would be best to do special worship of Mahadev on the evening of 28th May.

Simple and correct method of worship of Guru Pradosh Vrat

If you follow the rules properly on the day of Pradosh Vrat, you get the full results of the puja. You can worship Bholenath at home with this strict rule:

  • Evening Preparation: On the day of Guru Pradosh fast, take bath again in the evening and wear clean and neat clothes. After this, clean the temple or worship place of your house thoroughly.

  • Abhishekam of Shivalinga: First of all, mix Panchamrit (cow milk, curd, pure desi ghee, sugar and honey) and anoint Shivling properly.

  • Offering puja material: After completion of Abhishek, offer his favorite Belpatra, Dhatura, white sandalwood, flowers and Akshat (unbroken rice) to Mahadev. During this entire process, keep in mind ‘Om Namah Shivay’ Keep chanting the mantra continuously.

Strict rule for consumption of yellow color: According to the rules of the scriptures, since it is Guru Pradosh Vrat, offering yellow colored food items or sweets to Lord Shiva on this day is considered extremely auspicious and fruitful.

  • Katha and Aarti: In the last phase of the puja, recite or listen to the mythological story of Pradosh Vrat with devotion. After this, burn camphor and perform Aarti of Bholenath and distribute Prasad among the people present.

  • Breaking of fast: Devotees observing fast should break their fast only after sunrise on the next day i.e. 29th May. By doing this, the strict practice of fasting is considered complete.
