For wildlife lovers and nature lovers, a very glorious and big good news is coming from the land of Rajasthan. The roar of the national animal tiger is going to echo once again in the historical plains and forests of brave mother Mewar. The Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Central Government has given the final approval to declare Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary as the 59th official tiger reserve of the country and the new official tiger reserve of Rajasthan. After this historic decision, the way has been cleared for the rejuvenation of this dense forest area spread on the borders of Mewar and Marwar. National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Rajasthan Forest Department have started their preparations on war footing to get this project off the ground.
Mahasangam of Mewar-Marwar: Why is Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve special?
This new tiger reserve of Kumbhalgarh is going to be very unique and huge from geographical point of view. This forest area mainly straddles the boundaries of Rajsamand, Udaipur and Pali districts. The ecosystem of this forest situated in the ancient hills of Aravalli is considered to be the most favorable for tigers to live, hide and hunt. According to forest department officials, the core and buffer areas of this new tiger reserve are being designed in such a way to provide an excellent and safe habitat to the panthers, bears, and wolves living here as well as the tigers now being shifted from Ranthambore or Sariska.
The roar will echo among the historical forts: eco-tourism will increase
Kumbhalgarh is known all over the world not only for its rich biodiversity but also for its world famous Kumbhalgarh Fort and the second longest wall in the world. Now with the formation of Tiger Reserve here, eco-tourism is going to get a new and tremendous boom in this entire area. Tourists coming from India and abroad will now get the double thrill of seeing rich Rajput history, unmatched architecture and the Royal Bengal Tiger in the dense forests at one place. This decision is going to open immense employment opportunities for local guides, hoteliers and handicraft artisans in the coming times.
Mega plan for shifting and protection of tigers
To make Kumbhalgarh completely tiger friendly, the Forest Department is preparing a very strict and scientific protection blueprint. To increase the prey base of tigers in the new corridor, the number of chital, sambar and wild boars is being increased. Apart from this, surveillance will be maintained through modern AI-powered cameras (AI Surveillance) and drones within the forest. To reduce human interference, the process of peaceful and voluntary displacement of some villages is also being implemented in a very transparent manner at the local level so that any possible conflict between humans and wildlife can be completely prevented.
