How does the soul leave the body? These are the questions to which everyone wants to know the answers. All these mysteries have been revealed in Garuda Purana, the great scripture of Hinduism.

Garuda Purana is a collection of conversations between Lord Vishnu and his vehicle Garuda, detailing life, death and the afterlife. It is told in this book that on the basis of a person’s deeds, it is decided from which part of the body his soul will come out at the time of death.

The body is a city with nine doors

According to Garuda Purana, our body is like a city with nine main doors (gates). These nine gates are:

  • two ears
  • two nostrils
  • one mouth
  • Two excretory organs (openings for stool and urine)

The soul leaves the body through one of these doors, and this door is the mirror of its actions throughout its life.

Karmas decide the way out

1. Path of virtuous souls: Mouth and Brahmarandhra

  • Mouth door: The souls of those who have done good deeds in their life, followed religion, spoken the truth and chanted the name of God, mouth Leaves the body through the door of. It is believed that the soul that comes out of the mouth does not suffer much and goes towards Chandralok or heaven, where it gets the fruits of its virtuous deeds.
  • Brahmarandhra (tenth gate): It is considered to be the most sacred and secret door of the body, which is in the upper part of the head (palate). According to Garuda Purana, the soul of a person who is a yogi, a saint or does very virtuous deeds, who has devoted his life to the devotion and worship of God, Brahmarandhra It penetrates and comes out of the body. This is the door of salvation. The soul coming out of this door is freed from the cycle of birth and death and attains the supreme abode.

2. Path of Sinners: Gates of the Lower Limbs

  • Excretory organs: On the contrary, the soul of those who have committed sinful acts throughout their life, tortured others, supported unrighteousness and indulged in evil deeds, experiences great pain when they leave the body. It is mentioned in Garuda Purana that such sinful souls are forcefully dragged by the messengers (Yamdoot) of Yamraj. Excretory organs (excretory gates) Let’s take it out. This path is considered the most painful and humiliating. The soul coming out of this path goes straight to hell to suffer the tortures.

This knowledge of Garuda Purana teaches us that every action of ours, whether good or bad, does not go in vain. Whatever life we ​​live, our death and the journey after that is also the same. Therefore, one should always perform good deeds so that one’s soul can attain salvation.
