News India Live, Digital Desk: The college world is over, and welcome to a new glittering corporate world! First job, first salary… there is a lot of excitement, but there is also a little nervousness as to how everything will work out properly. We always want to give our best, but sometimes we unknowingly make some mistakes which can put brakes on our career growth.

If you are also a fresher and are just starting your job, then keep these 5 things in mind. These are the mistakes that almost every new employee makes.

1. Don’t ask questions thinking, “Everyone will think I’m a fool.”

This is the biggest fear of freshers. We think that if we ask a question, our boss or teammates will think that we don’t know anything. But the truth is exactly the opposite. When you ask questions, it shows that you are serious about the job and want to learn it properly. It is a million times better to ask once and do the work correctly than sitting quietly and making a mistake.

2. Becoming a part of office gossip

The environment of college canteen and office is very different. You will find many groups in the office who gossip about one thing or another. You may find it funny in the beginning, but always stay away from such things. Gossip spoils your professional image and no one can trust you. Focus on work and maintain good, professional friendships with everyone.

3. Comparing yourself to others

“Why is his salary more than mine?”… “Why did he get a better project than me?”… These questions will keep troubling you from within and will affect your performance. Remember, your race in the office is not against anyone but yourself. Everyone’s journey is different. Instead of looking at others, look at what new you learned from yesterday to today.

4. Avoiding taking responsibility

Don’t just do what you’re told to do. Always be ready to learn something new and take on new responsibilities. If your team is stuck on something, step up and ask, “Is there anything I can do to help?” This small step creates a very good image of you in the eyes of your manager. The people who move forward and work are the first to achieve growth.

5. Take feedback to heart

When your manager points out any shortcomings in your work, it does not mean that he does not like you. Consider it not ‘criticism’ but ‘feedback’. This is for your good, so that you can become better. Listen carefully to what they say, instead of getting angry, try to improve them. The person who learns from his mistakes climbs the corporate ladder fastest.

Everyone makes mistakes in the beginning, but the wise one is the one who learns from them and moves forward. Best wishes for your new beginnings!
