Fatty Liver Myths: Are you also a victim of these 3 misconceptions regarding fatty liver? Trend doctor of AIIMS revealed the secret

New Delhi. “Feel like eating something delicious outside? Let’s order online right away.” Do you also do the same often in your everyday life? If your answer is yes, then this news is to alert you in time. Due to today’s changing and sedentary lifestyle, excessive consumption of junk food and processed food habits, the problem of fatty liver is increasing rapidly like an epidemic among people. The biggest matter of concern is that many people consider it to be a very common or minor disease and ignore it completely. There are many misconceptions and misconceptions about fatty liver among the general public.

Throwing light on this serious topic, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a renowned gastroenterologist trained from AIIMS (AIIMS), Harvard and Stanford, has exposed the scientific truth of the three biggest myths related to fatty liver by sharing a video on his Instagram handle. According to the doctor, this serious problem can be controlled to a great extent by having the right information and making some timely changes in lifestyle.

Myth 1: Fatty liver is caused only by eating too much ghee, oil or fat.

Generally, people have this belief in their mind that including too much ghee, butter, oil or fatty foods in their food leads to accumulation of fat in the liver. According to Dr. Saurabh Sethi, this is not completely true. The real villain of fatty liver is not just fat, but high-fructose and processed ingredients in food.

Packaged soft drinks, canned sweet beverages, processed snacks and refined junk foods available in the market contain high amounts of fructose, which directly accelerates the process of fat accumulation in the liver. Additionally, poor quality seed oils (cheap refined oils) also aggravate the disease. The doctor clarified that not all fat is bad; The healthy fats found in extra virgin olive oil, avocado, and nuts actually protect your liver.

Myth 2: Fatty liver is not a life-threatening or serious disease

Since this disease is reported by many people these days, people take it lightly. Dr. Sethi has warned that this thinking can prove to be very dangerous. If fatty liver is not treated and managed on time, it gradually becomes serious internally. This can further lead to life-threatening conditions like non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, liver cirrhosis and ultimately liver cancer.

The biggest challenge of this disease is that it does not show any symptoms in its initial stages (silent killer). Therefore, it is very important to have regular blood tests (like LFT) and medical consultation.

Myth 3: Fatty liver cannot be cured by changing diet and lifestyle

Many patients feel that once fat gets accumulated in the liver, it is impossible to cure it without medicines and only changing the diet will not be of much benefit. Dr. Saurabh Sethi considers this to be a big misconception. According to him, fatty liver is a reversible condition, which can not only be improved with the help of proper diet, weight control and regular exercise, but in many cases the liver can also be made completely healthy as before. For this, there is no need to fall into the trap of any expensive detox tea, fake supplements or any miraculous product sold in the market.
