New Delhi/Bureau: Due to today’s busy life and poor eating habits, obesity has become a global problem. To lose weight, people sweat for hours in the gym, go on diet and take the help of many medicines. But do you know that even without any rigorous exercise, you can lose weight just by controlling your ‘eating time’? Nowadays, like ‘Intermittent Fasting’, the trend of ‘Time-Restricted Eating’ has increased a lot. It is not only effective in weight loss, but also helps in protecting the body from many serious diseases.
What is time-restricted eating?
Time-restricted eating is a way of eating in which you fix a fixed time for your meals instead of eating anything throughout the day. In this, a person has to eat only between 8 to 10 hours out of the 24 hours of the day, while he has to fast for the remaining 14 to 16 hours.
According to Dr. Anamika Gaur, a famous dietitian of GTB Hospital, Delhi, “The simple mathematics is that if you take your first meal at 9 in the morning, then have your last meal by 5 in the evening. After this, you do not have to eat anything solid till 9 in the morning the next day i.e. for about 16 hours. During this time, you can only consume water, coconut water or green tea without sugar.”
How does this process work inside the body?
Often people think that being hungry will lead to weakness, but science says something else. Dr. Anamika tells that when we do not eat anything for 16 hours, our metabolic process gets rest. During this time, when the body needs energy and does not get food from outside, it starts using the ‘fat’ already stored in the body as energy.
Apart from this, during the 16-hour fast the digestive organs of the body also get adequate rest. At this time, the body does its own ‘self-repair’, in which the energy spent also comes from the stored fat. This not only reduces weight, but internal wounds and minor problems of the body also start healing automatically.
Along with weight, relief is also available in these diseases
The biggest and most direct benefit of time-restricted eating is in weight loss, because it automatically reduces the calorie intake of the body. Apart from this, it has been claimed in many researches that this way of eating is a panacea for Type-2 Diabetes patients, because it helps in controlling the sugar level. This method is also considered very effective in controlling heart related diseases and high blood pressure. Also, it strengthens the digestive system and provides relief from stomach problems.
Caution: These people should not adopt this method even by mistake
Even though time-restricted eating has many benefits, it is not safe for everyone. Experts say that pregnant women should not follow it at all, because they and their baby need constant nutrition. Apart from this, elderly people, athletes and people suffering from any serious chronic disease should not start this diet plan without medical advice. It is mandatory to consult your doctor or dietitian before making any changes.
