Experience big or test? Jobs for 2 lakh teachers and that condition of TET, which increased everyone’s heartbeats.

The matter is related to the compulsion of ‘TET’ (TET i.e. Teacher Eligibility Test). The recent update from the Central Government and the concerned departments has created a stir among the teachers of the state, who were serving without this examination for a long time.

What’s the whole confusion?
In fact, according to the Right to Education Act (RTE) and the rules of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), it is mandatory to pass TET (be it UPTET or CTET) to teach in any primary school. But in Uttar Pradesh, there are a large number of such teachers, especially ‘Shiksha Mitra’ and some other category teachers, who have been teaching for years but do not have this eligibility certificate.

What ‘hope’ has the Center raised?
In the latest situation that has arisen, a signal has been received from the Central Government. The discussion is that the rules will not be relaxed, because the quality of children’s education cannot be compromised, but these 2 lakh teachers can be given a proper way or some time to overcome this hurdle. This is a ‘ray of hope’ for those who were thinking that now their jobs will be in direct danger.

Why is this strictness necessary?
The government’s logic is clear—just as a degree is required to become a doctor, passing the eligibility test for teaching is a standard. However, it is also true that these 2 lakh teachers have years of on-the-ground experience. But if we look at the legal maneuvers and past decisions of the court, ‘TET’ has now become a wall that has to be crossed.

What will be the way forward?
Now the situation for the teachers of UP is that they should start focusing on their studies and revision. The ongoing stir in the government corridors suggests that perhaps he may get one last or special chance to prove his eligibility. If this happens, it will be the biggest golden opportunity for them to cement their service and teach without any fear.
