India’s new batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said that his job will be a little easier due to his already familiarity with the young players of the Indian team. Also, he is excited to work with experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Kotak has recently been appointed the batting coach of the Indian team and he discussed his plans to prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Experience in NCA and India A became helpful
Sitanshu Kotak has worked for a long time at NCA (National Cricket Academy) and India A level. After consecutive defeats in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia, he was given the charge of the batting unit of the Indian team. His tenure began with the ongoing T20 series against England and will continue through the ODI series and Champions Trophy.
Kotak told the media in Rajkot,
“Experienced players like Rohit and Virat are in the team, but the young players in the current T20 team are also very talented. My job is to understand how they plan their game, what their thinking is and what I can add to improve their game. If I can improve a player’s game even by 2-5%, it would be a big thing for me.”
Eager to learn from Rohit and Kohli
Kotak also said that he himself hopes to learn a lot from players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He said,
“As experienced and successful a player he is, I will also get a chance to learn a lot from him. At the right time I will discuss with them and understand their needs and give them suggestions. This process will be based on mutual dialogue and trust.”
Formal announcement pending from BCCI
However, BCCI has not yet officially confirmed Kotak’s appointment. It is believed that his tenure will last till the five-Test series against England to be held in June 2025.
Regarding his priorities, Kotak said,
“The game is about constant learning and listening to others’ ideas. I am fully prepared to help the players, but all this should happen at the right time.”
Focus on preparation for Champions Trophy
The main responsibility of Sitanshu Kotak is to prepare the batsmen for the Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will join the team from the ODI series, will work with Kotak to strengthen the batting department of the team.
