Mohsina Kidwai was born in 1932 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. He started his political career from Uttar Pradesh and gradually made his place in national politics. Apart from being a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, she had also held the responsibility of many important ministries in the Centre. From Indira Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi, she saw many ups and downs of Congress and remained loyal to the party in every situation.

Azamgarh by-election and ‘political miracle’

A chapter of politics is recorded in the name of Mohsina Kidwai which had eased the way for the return of Indira Gandhi. His victory in the 1978 Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-election heralded the revival of the Congress against the then Janata Party government. This victory proved that Congress’s hold is still strong at the grassroots level.
