Chief Justice Surya Kant became furious on hearing this and said, “Do the officers consider themselves ‘Super CJI'” Chief Justice Surya Kant became furious on hearing this, said – Do the officers consider themselves ‘Super CJI’

A very surprising and shocking case has come to light from the corridors of the country’s biggest court i.e. the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of the country (CJI) Surya Kant has taken a very tough and aggressive stand on the allegation that the file of an important case was allegedly ‘lost’ or disappeared by the Supreme Court registry. As soon as this matter came before the Chief Justice during the hearing of a case on Wednesday, he got enraged. Calling this entire incident a serious tampering with the justice system, CJI Surya Kant said in clear words that he will personally look into this very serious matter and conduct a high-level inquiry into this gross negligence.

The seriousness of the matter can be gauged from the fact that the Chief Justice has asked the lawyer to immediately file a written complaint so that the real reason behind the negligence and the guilty officers can be found out.

What was the whole matter that enraged the Chief Justice?

Actually, this whole incident started on Wednesday when a lawyer presented his petition before the division bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana. The lawyer told the bench that he had filed a very important petition earlier this month, but even after a lot of time had passed, it was not listed for hearing. While giving his argument in the court, the lawyer said that he had written a formal letter to the Registrar of the Supreme Court regarding this delay, but now it seems that the Registry Department has lost or made his important case file disappear somewhere. Keeping in view the future of the petition, the lawyer made a special request to the bench to list it as soon as possible.

I will not just order listing, major action will be taken against those who are negligent: CJI

On hearing this argument of the lawyer, CJI Surya Kant’s anger reached the heights of heights. Expressing deep displeasure over the functioning of the registry, he said that if our registry is losing files in such important and urgent cases, then it is a very serious and worrying matter. The Chief Justice showed a stern attitude and asked the lawyer, do you think that I will just give a simple order to list this case? I have to do a lot more than this. Please give me detailed information about this entire matter. I want to investigate this complete negligence. He instructed the lawyer to ask his Advocate-on-Record (AoR) to submit the written complaint in this matter directly to me today itself.

Reprimand has been given earlier also, the court had said – officers should not consider themselves ‘Super Chief Justice’

This is not the first time that such serious allegations have been made against the registry of the country’s top court. Earlier in the month of May this year also, a bench led by CJI Surya Kant had strongly reprimanded the Supreme Court Registry and termed its functioning and attitude as ‘very poor and disappointing’. During the hearing of the bail plea of an investment fraud accused, the bench got so angry that it made a scathing remark that some officials of the registry have started considering themselves as “Super Chief Justice of India”, who stall the files as per their wish. Now again this new case of missing files has raised serious questions on the functioning of the administrative system of the Supreme Court.
