News India Live, Digital Desk: Recently, former US President Donald Trump has made a claim about the ongoing struggle between India and Pakistan, which has forced many people to think. He said that peace between the two countries was possible due to the ‘tariff’ imposed on India by his administration. Trump even said that India has become a peace messenger because of him!
At one of his programs in Florida, Donald Trump told how his administration had put “many tariffs” on India. He argued that due to the pressure of these tariffs, India reached an agreement with Pakistan, because India wanted to remove this tariff. He said, “You know that India-Pakistan border struggle was going on and wanted to remove their tariffs.” According to Trump, they had to say that for a few days, you should stop quarreling with each other. He further said that both had to bring them to the conversation table and do something special, and they were the peace messengers.
But the truth is quite different from this. The conflict-disguise agreement between India and Pakistan in February 2021 was due to an understanding between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the two countries. This was a common decision after firing and clashes on the border that has been going on for years.
The Government of India has always denied the mediation of any third party on the Kashmir issue. It has been a clear attitude of India that Kashmir is a bilateral issue and only India and Pakistan will talk among themselves. Talking about tariffs, they had put India to save and promote their domestic industries, not to pressure any conversation with Pakistan. Trump’s claim is beyond the facts and to a large extent his ‘imagination’. India never decides the relationship with its neighboring country at the behest of anyone or under pressure. India has always paved the way for dialogue and peace, but there is no compromise on national security and integrity.
