Amol Anil Majumdar was born on 11 November 1974. He is an Indian cricket coach and former cricketer, who previously played for the Mumbai and Assam cricket teams.
He was mainly a right-handed batsman. He holds the record for most runs scored in India’s domestic first-class cricket, the Ranji Trophy, breaking the record previously held by Amarjeet KP.
Talking about Amol Majumdar’s education, he studied from BPM High School and then on the advice of his coach Ramakant Achrekar, took admission in Shardashram Vidyamandir School. Later, in high school itself, Majumdar met Sachin Tendulkar, whose coach was also the same.
If we look at the coaching career of Amol Majumdar, Majumdar was appointed the batting coach of India’s Under-19 cricket team and India’s Under-23 cricket team. In December 2013, Majumdar was appointed batting consultant to the Netherlands cricket team.
In 2018, Majumdar was appointed the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 IPL for three seasons, 2017–18, 2018–19 and 2019–20. As of 2021, Majumdar is still working for Rajasthan Royals.
He was appointed batting coach (interim) of the South Africa national cricket team during South Africa’s tour of India. Now he is the head coach of Mumbai team.
In October 2023, BCCI appointed Amol as the head coach of the Indian women’s national cricket team. Under his coaching in 2025, the Indian women’s cricket team won its first ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
Amol Majumdar was no ordinary cricketer, he scored 11,167 runs in 171 matches in his first-class cricket career, which included 30 brilliant centuries and 60 half-centuries.
In domestic ODI cricket (List-A), he scored 3286 runs in 106 innings, which included 3 centuries and 26 half-centuries. In the final phase of his career, he played 14 T20 matches and scored 174 runs including one half-century.
In his domestic cricket career, he scored a total of 14627 runs, which included 33 centuries and 87 half-centuries.
