News India Live, Digital Desk: There is currently talk of America’s “Operation Absolute Resolve” all over the world. On one hand, it is being described as a mission to end the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro, while on the other hand, people are asking in hushed tones, “Has America really become so good that it sends its army just for the people of Venezuela?”
America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has now put a full stop to these speculations. Even the pundits of diplomacy are surprised to hear the answer he gave. Trump has accepted without any hesitation that in this whole game “Oil” Has a big hand.
Trump’s ‘straight talk, no nonsense’
Usually when a country sends troops to another country, they use heavy words like “human rights,” “peace” and “democracy.” But Trump is a business leader. He said in clear words that Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves and it was not being used properly.
Trump says, “This oil can be ours, and we can pay off our debt by selling it.” His statement shows that this step of America is not only political but also economic.
35 trillion dollar burden
America currently has a huge debt of about 35 trillion dollars. Trump has indicated in his rallies and now in this statement that he wants to reduce America’s debt burden by selling Venezuela’s oil resources.
The simple math is this—remove Maduro, install a government of your choice (like Delsey Rodriguez or anyone else), and then American companies take control of the oil wells there. The money that comes from this will be useful to America. Trump does not consider this as “looting”, but as “reimbursement”.
So was ‘freedom’ just a show?
It is natural to raise this question now. Those Venezuelans who were happy thinking that America has come to liberate them from Maduro’s rule, are they now realizing that all this is not free? According to Trump, Maduro had ruined the country, but critics are saying that if there was no oil there, perhaps America would not have made any difference whether Maduro stayed or not.
America’s new way
Trump has made it clear that his foreign policy approach is not the same as the old one. They will fight the war only when there is ‘profit’ for America in it. Venezuela operation is an example of this. Maduro going to jail is a political victory, but the real lottery is in the form of oil.
Now it remains to be seen how the rest of the world and the people of Venezuela themselves digest this “freedom in exchange for oil” deal.
