Deadline finished, but why is the Election Commission silent on final figures?:

News India Live, Digital Desk: Bihar Voter List Suspense: Before the assembly elections in Bihar, the fierce battle over the voter list has come to a new turn. On the one hand, after the intervention of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission had assured that the process of adding or removing the name in the voter list will continue, on the other hand, since the last date for filing claim and objection (September 1), the Commission has taken mysterious silence on the final figures.

For a whole month, the Election Commission was telling how many people lodged claims or objections on the draft voter list. People were eager to know how many applications came at the end of the deadline of 1 September. But surprisingly, no final figure has been released by the Commission two days after the deadline, this silence is now raising many questions.

This case is also serious because when the draft voter list was released on August 1, the names of about 65 lakh people were missing. The Commission had given reasons like death, shift to another place or duplicate name. Since then, there was a earthquake in the politics of Bihar and the matter reached the Supreme Court.

In the Supreme Court, the Election Commission had assured that people do not need to panic. Even after the deadline is over, applications will be made to improve the voter list till the last date of enrollment. But now that the Commission is not telling the final figures, it is bound to create doubt in the minds of the people.

Interestingly, many times more people lodged complaints to remove the name than all the people applied to add names. At the same time, the participation of political parties was also very dull in this whole process. Now everyone’s eyes are on the Election Commission when it breaks this silence and tells how much the real number of Bihar voters is.
