News India Live, Digital Desk: In the politics of Jharkhand, the round of allegations and counter-allegations regarding women’s reservation and ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ has intensified. State Congress Committee spokesperson Rakesh Sinha has termed this law of the Central Government as a ‘big joke’ and a ‘political statement’ on women. Sinha said that the BJP government wants to get women’s votes in the upcoming elections through this Act, but does not actually intend to give them their rights.
“Why wait till 2029?”: Rakesh Sinha’s question
Rakesh Sinha, while talking to the media in Ranchi, raised serious questions on the intentions of the Central Government. He said that if the government really wanted to give reservation to women, then why was it not implemented with immediate effect? Sinha argued that by imposing the condition of census and delimitation, the government has put this law on hold indefinitely. According to him, “This law is not a laddu in the hands of women, but a rattle, whose benefits it is impossible for them to get before 2029.”
Emphasis given on demand of caste census
Meanwhile, the Congress spokesperson reiterated his party’s old demand and said that without caste census Women’s reservation is incomplete. He alleged that BJP is trying to snatch away the rights of OBC and Dalit women through this law. Congress demands that ‘within quota’ should be ensured within the reservation so that women standing at the last rung of the society can also get a chance for leadership.
Jharkhand BJP’s counterattack
Jharkhand BJP has also given a strong reaction to this attack of Congress. BJP leaders say that Congress kept the Women’s Reservation Bill pending for decades and now that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it a reality, Congress is upset to see its ground slipping. BJP said that this law is historic and it will start a new era of women’s participation in the country’s democracy.
Electoral chessboard and women vote bank
In view of the upcoming elections in Jharkhand, the role of women voters is being considered very important. On one hand, BJP is presenting it as its biggest achievement, while Congress and its allies are trying to strengthen their hold among women by calling it ‘electoral lollipop’. This statement of Rakesh Sinha is being considered a part of this election strategy.
