Major setback for Naxalites in Jharkhand: 16 Maoists, including six carrying rewards on their heads, surrendered to the police and returned to the mainstream.

The impact of the operations being carried out against the militants who have become synonymous with terrorism in the state has now become such that the morale of the Maoists has started to break. 16 notorious Maoists have surrendered together before Jharkhand Police and security forces. The surprising thing is that this surrender group also includes six dangerous Naxalites on whom huge rewards were announced by the government. This decision of returning to the mainstream with weapons is being considered a historic milestone towards breaking the back of Naxalism in the state.

Impact of increasing pressure of security forces and surrender policy

The strict strategies of the police administration and the attractive surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government have a big role in the sudden surrender of arms by these dreaded Maoists of Jharkhand. The way Cobra Battalion, CRPF and Jharkhand Police have carried out joint operations in the remote forests of the state for the last few months and destroyed the hideouts of Naxalites, the militants were left with no other option but to live or die. Due to continuous siege in the forests and disruption in supply of goods, these Maoists thought it better to leave the path of violence and bow before the law. There was a continuous appeal from the administration that the stray people who are away from the mainstream should give up violence and start a normal life by taking advantage of the rehabilitation policy of the government.

These 16 Maoists who surrendered also include many important cadres and commander level people of the organization. All of them formally surrendered their weapons before senior police and security officials. The weapons handed over include many sophisticated rifles, cartridges and other military material which were used by these people to carry out covert attacks against the security forces. During a special program organized at the police headquarters, all of them took an oath to abandon the path of violence forever. Under the rehabilitation policy of the government, now all these surrendered militants will be provided financial assistance, employment opportunities and other facilities as per rules so that they can live a respectable life in the society again. This big success has further strengthened the resolve to make Jharkhand Naxal free.
