The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for the next three days for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. This means that the mercury will fall rapidly in these states and the effect of morning and evening cold will be felt even more. On the other hand, heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry of South India.
Delhi’s double attack: cold and poisonous air
The weather will remain dry in the capital Delhi even today. There will be relief due to sunshine during the day, but the air will remain cool. Today the minimum temperature is expected to be around 12 degrees and maximum 24 degrees.
However, pollution remains a bigger problem than cold for Delhi. Even today Delhi’s air is in the “very bad” category. The condition of some areas is even worse:

- Shadipur – 436 AQI
- Punjabi Bagh – 489 AQI
- Mundka – 487 AQI

Chance of snowfall in the mountains
There may be snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand today, after which the cold will increase further in the plains. Yellow alert has been issued for areas like Srinagar, Pulwama and Kupwara, where the effect of cold and fog will be more.
There will be sunshine in Maharashtra
The people of Maharashtra will continue to get respite from the cold for the time being. The weather will be clear and dry in cities like Ahmednagar, Akola, Aurangabad today. There will be bright sunshine during the day, due to which the effect of cold will be felt less.
