Jhansi, 21 August (HS). BSP's proposed Bharat Bandh to demand withdrawal of Supreme Court's order on SC-ST reservation issue appeared ineffective today. Shops remained open in the market, police force was deployed vigilantly for security. BSP workers took out a procession in large numbers and reached the Collectorate premises and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President.

BSP and other organizations on Wednesday protested demanding withdrawal of the order on SC-ST reservation given by the Supreme Court.

Bharat Bandh was declared. Under this, today hundreds of BSP workers reached Elite Square in a procession from near Gandhi Udyan Kachheri. There they reached the Collectorate premises with a procession raising slogans and handed over a memorandum addressed to the President through the District Magistrate.

During this, the BSP members demanded that the Supreme Court has ordered the governments regarding reservation, the Government of India should withdraw it by making a law. They also said that they should get the benefit of SC-ST reservation. During this, the BSP members tried to close the market. Some traders closed their shops for a while and then opened them again. At the same time, police force was deployed at every nook and corner to deal with those who forcibly closed the shops.
