During the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (ICP) has received 87 percent more donations than last year, which has reached Rs 3,967.14 crore. However, in the case of electoral bonds, the BJP has suffered a setback and the donation received from this has come down to half. This information was received from the BJP’s annual audit report of 2023-24, which was published by the Election Commission on Monday. At the same time, the Congress has also made a good jump in the case of donations and has received 320 percent more donations than 2022-23. The Congress has also benefited in the case of electoral bonds.
Increase in voluntary contribution
According to the report, there has also been a tremendous increase in the voluntary contribution received by the ruling party. In 2022-2023, BJP received a donation of Rs 2,120.06 crore, which increased to Rs 3,967.14 crore in 2023-2024. BJP received Rs 1,685.62 crore as electoral bonds, which is 43 percent of the total donations. At the same time, in 2022-23, the party received Rs 1,294.14 crore from Electoral Bonds, which was 61 percent of the total donation. The change occurred after the Supreme Court was declared electoral bonds unconstitutional in February last year. The BJP has also increased its election expenses during the year of Lok Sabha elections. Last year, the party spent Rs 1,092.15 crore, while Rs 1,754.06 crore was spent this year, out of which Rs 591.39 crore was spent on advertisements and publicity.
Congress has more donations
Talking about the Congress, she lagged behind the BJP in terms of total donations, but its donation amount has also increased drastically. In 2022-23, the Congress received Rs 268.62 crore, while in 2023-24 it received a donation of Rs 1,129.66 crore, leading to a 320 percent increase in the Congress donation amount. In addition, the Congress has got 73 percent more electoral bonds than 2022-23. This year it received an election bond worth Rs 828.36 crore, which is much more than Rs 171.02 crore found in 2022-23. The Congress’s election expenses also increased from Rs 192.55 crore to Rs 619.67 crore.
