News India Live, Digital Desk: Annual Floods: But now there is a great hope to deal with this permanent problem. The central government is soon to bring a comprehensive ‘silt management policy’ for Ganga, Kosi and other major rivers like Gandak, Bagmati, Mahananda, Punpun and Budhi Gandak. This initiative can prove to be a milestone in providing permanent relief to Bihar from the destructive problems of floods.

Flood is a very old and serious problem for Bihar. For decades, these rivers have been collecting large amounts of silt with them, due to which their bottom is rising. Rifting the river floor reduces their water capacity and in a little rain, they become a rampage and thousands of acres of agricultural land by showing their formidable form. Statistics show that about 70 to 80 percent of the districts of Bihar are badly affected by floods every year, causing heavy loss of life and property.

So far, flood control has been dependent on the embankments mainly on embankments, but the problem of continuous silt accumulation made these efforts to a great extent ineffective. For a long time, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been emphasizing silt from rivers and emphasizing its scientific management, believing that only creating an embankment will not be a permanent solution to the problem.

Now the Union Ministry of Water Power has taken into consideration the seriousness of this problem and the decades -old demand of Bihar. In the new policy, not only on creating embankments, but also on the removal of silt from rivers and its permanent management will also be focused. It is expected that this policy will help to deepen the floor of rivers, which will increase their water flow capacity and they will be able to remove rain water easily. The goal of this initiative is not just immediate relief, but to fully liberate Bihar from the permanent problem of floods.
