News India Live, Digital Desk: The biggest match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is to be played today at the prestigious Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In this match called ‘El Clasico’, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face each other. But before this high-voltage match, there is only one question in the minds of crores of fans, will ‘Thala’ i.e. Mahendra Singh Dhoni take the field today? Dhoni has been out of the first 6 matches this season due to injury, due to which CSK’s performance has also been greatly affected.
Dhoni returns to practice, but suspense still persists
On the eve of the match, there was a relief news from Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. MS Dhoni sweated profusely for about 40 minutes in the nets. He was not only seen hitting long shots with the bat, but he also practiced wicketkeeping. During this, he faced fast bowlers like Mathisha Pathirana and Mahish Teekshana and he was also seen running without any discomfort. However, the final decision regarding his return to the playing-11 will still be taken at the time of the toss.
Captain Ruturaj told the truth about Dhoni’s injury
Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has given a big update on Dhoni’s injury. He revealed during a promotional event that Dhoni had got injured during an intra-squad (practice match) just before the start of the season. There was a strain in his calf muscles while running. Gaikwad said, “Dhoni is recovering slowly. We don’t want to rush him. He may play in today’s match or maybe in the next match, but he will be in action soon.”
Might enter as impact player
CSK bowling coach Eric Simmons also made it clear that the final decision will depend on Dhoni himself and the medical team. If Dhoni feels fully fit, the team can use him as an ‘Impact Player’. This will not put additional pressure on Dhoni for wicketkeeping and he will be able to change the course of the match only with his explosive batting in the last overs. Chennai is currently ranked eighth in the points table, so Dhoni’s return will be no less than a lifesaver for the team.
