BCCI takes major action, ban on former owner of Mumbai T20 League in match -fixing case

BCCI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has imposed a lifetime ban on the former co-owner of the Mumbai T20 League franchise, Gurmeet Singh Bhamra for fixing for fixing. He was the co-owner of Sobo Supersonics in the league. Bhamra contacted Dhawal Kulkarni and Bhavin Thakkar for fixing during the 2019 tournament phase. For this reason, the BCCI has banned them. Dhawal is a well-known face who has played for Mumbai Indians in IPL, but has now retired.

Gurmeet Singh Bhamra was also associated with the shutdown GT20 Canada and is no longer part of the Mumbai T20 League. This league is being resumed after 2019. The BCCI’s anti -corruption unit further recommended that a proper order could be passed against the defendant under the provisions of Section 4 and Section 5 of the Code. According to the BCCI’s ACU Code, any offense under Article 2.1.1 or 2.1.2 or 2.1.3 or 2.1.4 will be punishable by minimum five years and maximum life ban.

Bhavin Thakkar contacted for match fixing

The copy of the order states that a person named Sonu Vasan had approached Bhavin Thakkar for match fixing at the behest of owner Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah. The players used to call Bhamrah as ‘Paaji’. Accordingly, a copy of the conversation shows that Sonu offered money and other benefits to Thakkar on behalf of the defendant. Holding the entire proposal presented by the defendant appropriate, Sonu told Bhavin Thakkar that the Vasan would inform the defendant about whatever decision it wants to take in this matter. Regarding contact with Kulkarni, the order only stated that his statement was recorded by the ACU.
