News India Live, Digital Desk: FASTag, which makes traveling on the roads easier, is now the target of cyber criminals. In recent times, many such cases have come to light where people are being sent fake messages in the name of ‘FASTag KYC Update’ or ‘Low Balance’. As soon as the user clicks on the link given in these messages, his phone gets hacked or bank details are stolen.
How do swindlers become victims? (Mode of Operation)
Fake messages and links: You receive an SMS saying that your Fastag account is going to be suspended, to save it, immediately update your KYC on the given link.
Fake Website: On clicking the link, a website opens which looks exactly like the real bank or NHAI site.
OTP and data theft: When you fill in your details and bank information, you are asked for an OTP. As soon as you give this OTP, the money disappears from your account.
Fake Customer Care: Many times wrong helpline numbers are found on Google search. When you call them, the fraudsters pretend to be bank officers and get you to download a screen sharing app (like Anydesk or TeamViewer).
NHAI advice: 5 ways to stay safe
Official app for KYC: Always use the official website of FASTag (ihmcl.co.in) or the authorized app of your bank.
Avoid unknown links: Do not click on the link given in SMS from any random number. Banks or NHAI never ask for sensitive information through links.
Distance from screen sharing apps: Do not download apps like Anydesk on your phone on someone’s advice, they give complete access to your phone to fraudsters.
Helpline Number: Official helpline number for any information related to Fastag 1033 Call only.
PIN and OTP: Do not share your UPI PIN or bank OTP with anyone.
