New Delhi/Lifestyle Desk: Are there some people in your office, home or friend circle who complain all the time, spread negative talk or give you mental stress? If yes, then be careful. It’s not just a matter of your mood, but also your age. A recent international research has claimed that ‘toxic’ i.e. toxic relationships and company of stressful people can make you old before your actual age. This research, published in the prestigious journal ‘The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’ (PNAS), highlights the deep connection between relationships and health.
It has a direct impact on biological age.
According to research, when a person constantly lives among people who cause mental stress, it affects his ‘biological age’. This simply means that even if you are 30 years old on paper, due to stress your body and mind may start behaving like a 35 or 40 year old person. Research has warned that people living in such an environment not only start looking old quickly, but their risk of falling prey to serious diseases also increases manifold.
Study done on 2600 people, increased danger from ‘hustlers’
In this detailed study, scientists closely analyzed the social and personal relationships of about 2600 people. The main objective of the research was to understand how the people around us affect our body and DNA. About 30 percent of the people included in the study admitted that there is at least one person in their life who continuously spreads negativity and causes stress. Researchers have named such people ‘Hasslers’, who unknowingly become enemies of others’ health and age.
DNA test reveals aging
Scientists took saliva samples of the research participants and thoroughly examined their DNA. Through this modern technology, it was found out how fast the internal organs of a person’s body are aging. The results found that people who had “hasslers” in their lives saw an additional 1.5 percent increase in biological age. This figure may sound small, but in the long run it badly affects the body’s immunity and energy.
Why does mental stress make us age quickly?
According to Dr. AK Vishwakarma, an expert in the psychiatry department of Ghaziabad District Hospital, when someone continuously stresses us, our brain repeatedly goes into ‘fight or flight’ mode. It is a condition in which the body is always ready to fight some invisible threat. When this condition persists for a long time, the level of stress hormones increases in the body, which directly accelerates the aging process. This not only causes premature wrinkles on the face, but the internal systems of the body also become weak.
Physical problems caused by the company of toxic people
If you are also surrounded by such people, then these symptoms may appear in your body:
Constant complaint of headache and heaviness.
Inability to sleep deeply or feeling restless throughout the night.
Fatigue and lack of energy all the time, even after adequate rest.
Irritability and anger over small things.
Feeling lack of concentration in any work.
Poor digestion system and frequent stomach related problems.
