News India Live, Digital Desk: The recent arrest of seven Ukrainian citizens in India’s Uttar Pradesh (UP) has sparked a new diplomatic controversy. The Ukrainian government has called the entire case a deep-rooted “international conspiracy” by Russia rather than a normal legal process. Ukraine claims that Russia is adopting such tactics to spoil Ukraine’s relations with its friendly countries like India.
What is the whole matter?
Uttar Pradesh Police recently detained seven Ukrainian nationals on charges of illegally crossing the border or violating visa norms. According to the report, these citizens were trying to enter India through Nepal. Presently all of them are lodged in a jail in Uttar Pradesh.
Ukraine’s sensational allegation: “Russia laid a trap”
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and officials there have reacted sharply to this arrest. Ukraine says that:
The citizens arrested may be innocent tourists or refugees who have been trapped by giving false information.
Russia’s intelligence agencies are deliberately creating such situations which will increase the diplomatic distance between India and Ukraine.
Ukraine has described it as part of “hybrid warfare”, aimed at tarnishing Ukraine’s image on the global stage.
India’s stance and legal position
According to Indian officials, this matter is completely related to violation of security and rules. Crossing the border without valid documents is a legal offense. However, there has been no official comment from the Indian government yet on the allegations of “Russian conspiracy” made by Ukraine.
Fear of increasing diplomatic tension?
Experts believe that such incidents amid war can complicate communication between the two countries. Ukraine has been continuously urging India to adopt a humanitarian approach and release its citizens and conduct an impartial investigation into the matter so that “Russian interference” can be exposed.
