5 panacea ayurvedic remedies for children

1. The magic of honey and ginger

The mixture of honey and ginger has been used for years for cold and cough. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce sore throat and swelling. At the same time, honey helps in calming cough.

  • How to use: Mix a few drops of ginger juice in a spoon of honey and make the child lick it slowly. It can be given two to three times a day. Note: Do not give honey to children below one year of age.

2. Basil decoction

Tulsi is called the “queen of herbs” in Ayurveda. It has antibacterial, antiviral and immunity enhancing properties. It helps in expelling the phlegm accumulated in the chest.

  • How to use: Boil 4-5 basil leaves in a cup of water with a small piece of ginger and 2-3 black peppercorns. When the water is reduced to half, filter it and give it to the child to drink after it cools down a bit. You can add some honey (for children above one year) or jaggery for taste.

3. Mulethi will soothe the throat

Mulethi root is no less than a boon for the throat. It provides instant relief from sore throat, pain and cough. Its taste is also sweet, so children take it easily.

  • How to use: Give a small piece of liquorice to the child to suck. If the child is small, you can also make him lick liquorice powder mixed with honey.

4. Turmeric milk

Turmeric is a natural antibiotic. Drinking turmeric mixed with hot milk increases the immunity of the body and helps in fighting infections. It is very beneficial in both cold and cough.

  • How to use: Mix one-fourth teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper powder in a glass of warm milk and give it to the child before sleeping. Black pepper helps in absorbing the properties of turmeric in the body.

5. Celery Potli

This is a very safe and effective solution for small children, especially infants. The smell of celery helps in clearing blocked nose and relieving difficulty in breathing.

  • How to use: Make a small bundle by tying some celery buds in a clean cotton cloth. Heat it slightly on a hot pan (make sure it is not too hot) and gently apply it on the child’s chest and back. You can also keep this bundle near the child’s sleeping place.
