News India Live, Digital Desk: The day of Mokshada Ekadashi is the day of worship of Lord Vishnu and we all know how dear Tulsi is to Lord Vishnu. She is called ‘Vishnupriya’. It is believed that without Tulsi Dal (Basil leaves), the offering to Shri Hari is not considered complete.

But, this is where many devotees make a big mistake. In enthusiasm and devotion, we do some things which are not right according to the scriptures. Let us know about those things which are very important for you to keep in mind on this Ekadashi.

1. Should basil leaves be plucked? (no way!)
This is the most important rule which people often ignore. Basil leaves on Ekadashi day, Sunday and at the time of solar eclipse and lunar eclipse. should not be broken even by mistake,
According to old beliefs, on the day of Ekadashi, Mother Tulsi also observes Nirjala fast for Lord Vishnu. If you pluck leaves, they get distracted and feel distressed. Therefore, pluck the leaves for puja a day before i.e. on the ‘Dashami’ date itself. Basil leaves are not considered stale, so there is no need to worry.

2. Be careful while watering
Some people also fill a pot with water and offer water to Tulsi as usual on the day of Ekadashi. Many scholars believe that Tulsi ji should not be given too much water on this day because she is on a fast. It would be better if you just light the lamps and go around them. Even if water has to be offered, offer it in very small quantity and do not submerge the roots.

3. Do not touch with dirty hands
Tulsi plant is not just a plant, but is an actual form of Goddess. Often we start moving the pot here and there in a hurry, without bathing or with dirty hands. Take special care of purity on the day of Ekadashi. Do not go near Tulsi without taking bath.

4. Correct way to light a lamp
Lighting a ghee lamp near Tulsi in the evening is considered very auspicious. This brings happiness and prosperity in the house and drives away poverty. Keep in mind that do not place the lamp just above the roots of the plant or too close to the leaves, which may damage the plant. Keep the lamp at a distance.
