609143 Fig Veg

Whatever you might have read or heard about figs, it has been told about the health benefits of figs. But due to a recent video that went viral on social media, vegetarian people have now started shying away from eating figs. Let us know what is the whole matter and whether figs are really non-veg.

What happened
Recently, actress Shehnaz posted a video on her Instagram account and wrote – Yes, this is the reason why Jain people do not eat figs. He further wrote that when I met Nitin in Coorg, he told me how a small insect sacrifices its life to grow figs. In fact, when the female wasp wants to lay her eggs, she digs a hole in the fig fruit and lays her eggs there. While entering the flower the female’s wings break and she dies inside. After this the fig digests the dead body of this organism.

Are figs non veg?
If seen from the perspective of actress Shehnaz, then almost yes. But there are millions of vegetarian people who do not believe so and consume figs for their own benefits. But it is said about the people who follow Jainism that they stay away from figs.

Why don’t Jains eat figs?
Actually, Jain people follow non-violence and abstain from consuming meat. For this reason many people of that community do not consume figs. But this is not the case with veg people. Many vegetarians and vegans believe that the wasps entering and dying is a natural process of feeding on the figs so that the figs can be eaten.

What are people saying?
Different types of comments are coming from people on this video which is going viral on social media. Commenting on this post, a user named Luckynov wrote that technically, there is hardly any wasp in the fig. These wasps are also completely destroyed and converted into proteins by an enzyme called ficin inside the fig. Another user commented that do not trust this video, because this video is not technically completely correct.
