A very big and cult diplomatic change is going to happen in the field of infrastructure and civil aviation in Bihar. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has announced in a high-level meeting that the state government is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to develop air connectivity on a strict level in all the districts of Bihar. The main objective of the government is to increase air connectivity in Bihar by 10 times in the next five years.
The Chief Minister held a stern review meeting with top officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Government of India) and the Department of Civil Aviation (Government of Bihar) on Tuesday at the Lok Sevak residence at ‘Ek Ane Marg’. The Chief Minister said that Bihar has to be established as a leading civil aviation center of the country, which will give wings to tourism, trade and cultural economic activities in the state and create lakhs of new employment opportunities for the youth.
Patna runway will be expanded; Darbhanga airport will become international
During this diplomatic meeting, Civil Aviation Secretary of the Government of India, Sameer Kumar Sinha and Aviation Secretary of Bihar, Nilesh Ramchandra Devre gave a detailed presentation. Many tough decisions were taken in the meeting regarding the rejuvenation of major airports of Bihar:
1. Patna Airport
Instructions have been given to strictly speed up the work of expansion and capacity increase of the runway to increase the capacity of flights and safe landing of big aircraft at Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport of the capital Patna. The Chief Minister clearly said that the State Government will provide all possible support to the Central Ministry for this including land acquisition.
2. Darbhanga Airport
Darbhanga airport, the center of Mithilanchal, will now be upgraded as an international airport. By getting international status, travelers from Gulf countries and other diplomatic global routes will get direct access to Bihar.
3. Purnia and Greenfield Projects
The construction work of permanent ‘civil enclave’ at Purnia airport will be expedited. Along with this, serious diplomatic discussions took place regarding the grounding of the Ajgabinath Dham Greenfield Airport project near Sultanganj.
Bihar Aviation Roadmap 2026: Key points and cities
Bihar has been included in the list of priority states under the revised ‘UDAN Scheme’. Under this, the airstrips of small cities of the state are being strengthened and modernized as per the technical standards:

The Chief Minister has given strict instructions to all the officers that the works stuck in the files should be brought to the ground immediately so that this cult aviation revolution can be completed within the stipulated time.
