AAP MLAs objected to Speaker Vijendra Gupta’s statement

On Thursday, there was a fierce debate between AAP MLAs and speaker Vijendra Gupta in the Delhi Assembly. AAP MLAs erupted over the statement made by Gupta in response to the letter of the opposition leader Atishi and there was an uproar in the House for a while.

Gupta clarified that special mention notices should be related only to subjects that come under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government. He said that law and order does not come under the Delhi government, so it cannot be discussed within the assembly.

Atishi’s retaliation: “Why not discuss the growing crime in Delhi?”

Leader of the opposition Atishi strongly opposed Gupta’s decision. He said that MLAs have always raised issues related to their constituencies, so why is discussion on increasing crimes in Delhi?

He asked question:
“If 70 MLAs sitting in the Delhi Assembly cannot discuss the crimes happening in their respective areas, then who will do it? Why is discussion on serious cases like firing, rape and violence against women?”

Atishi alleged that the BJP-ruled central government has failed to maintain law and order and is now trying to suppress the discussion on crimes.

Speaker Vijendra Gupta’s reply: “Assembly will not be misused for political gains”

Gupta dismissed the allegations of Atishi, saying that the opposition is misusing the process of the House for political gains rather than discussing public welfare issues such as pollution, hygiene and dengue control.

Gupta said,
“I welcome a healthy and democratic debate in the assembly. But, I will not allow any such issue to be raised, which only to take political advantage and to do self-violence in the media.”

Will the controversy move further?

After this whole controversy, it will be interesting to see how much more rans the issue of this issue. Will AAP MLAs now protest on the road? Or will you take this matter out of the assembly among the public? This dispute may catch more in the coming days.
