47 incidents of cloudburst, flash flood and landslide in Himachal in 37 days, 10 dead, 46 missing

Shimla, 4 August (HS). Monsoon is wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh this time too. Like last year, this year too monsoon has inflicted deep wounds on the people of the state. Torrential rains have been witnessed in many parts of the state. Floods and landslides have destroyed families. The figures of the State Emergency Operations Centre are shocking.

In the report of the operations centre, 47 incidents of flash floods, landslides and cloudbursts have been reported in the state in the last 37 days of the monsoon season. Flash floods wreaked havoc in 22 places of the state, landslides in 17 places and cloudbursts in eight places caused devastation. In these, 10 people lost their lives and 46 went missing. Four people are injured.

According to the Emergency Operations Centre, 120 houses were damaged in different incidents of cloudburst, of which 64 houses were completely destroyed while 37 houses were partially damaged. Flash floods destroyed 18 houses and landslides destroyed one house. 14 shops were also washed away due to flash floods, landslides and cloudburst. 24 cattle sheds were also destroyed and 54 cattle lost their lives.

Most of the cloudburst incidents were reported in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu districts. On the night of 31 July, 10 people were killed and 45 are missing due to cloudburst in these three districts. Samej village of Rampur subdivision of Shimla district was completely destroyed due to cloudburst. 36 people are missing in the accident.

Search operation continues in Shimla's Samjhauta for the fourth day, no clue found about missing people

The search for the 36 missing people after the cloudburst incident in Shimla continued for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. No clue of the missing people was found even on the third day of the search operation. In such a situation, the help of live detector device and sniffer dog is now being taken in the search operation. NDRF, SDRF Police, ITBP, Home Guard personnel are engaged in the search operation in about 85 km area.

Home Guard Commandant RP Nepta said that a review meeting was held last evening. In which all the rescue teams have been given different tasks. Yesterday it took some time to cross the river in building the bridge but today Bailey bridges are being built. It is likely that on the fourth day of the search operation, as many bodies as possible will be taken out.

Heavy rain warning for next four days, yellow alert

People have heaved a sigh of relief due to the decrease in heavy rains in the state during the last 24 hours. 19 mm rainfall was recorded in Barthin of Bilaspur and 14 mm rainfall was recorded in Dharamshala, the headquarters of Kangra district. Apart from this, nine mm rainfall each was recorded in Kangra and Kukumseri and six mm in Manali. Most parts of the state including the capital Shimla are cloudy since this morning. The Meteorological Center Shimla has predicted bad weather in the state till August 10. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in the plains and mid-mountain areas of the state till August 8.

The Meteorological Department has instructed people and tourists to maintain distance from rivers and streams and not to travel to areas prone to landslides.
