In the ration scam case of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his brother Alif Noor alias Mukul Rahman were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). On Thursday morning, both of them appeared at the ED office located at CGO Complex and faced interrogation. The arrest was made late at night after 14 hours of interrogation. They will be produced in court today.
Earlier, the ED had arrested the state's former food minister Jyotipriya (Balu) Malik and his close businessman Baqibur Rahman in the same case. Anisur and Alif reached the CGO complex with some documents at around 12 noon on Thursday. Here many journalists questioned Anisur about the documents, but he refused to say anything. He was also asked questions about Jyotipriya and Barik Vishwas, but he avoided all the questions. After a long interrogation, it has been reported that both of them were arrested at 2:00 in the night.
It is noteworthy that the ED had started raids in various parts of the state since Tuesday morning in the ration scam case. The central investigating agency also raided several rice mills in North and South 24 Parganas. This raid also included Alif's house and rice mill in Deganga. Also, ED raided Barik's flat in Rajarhat. His flat was searched for more than nine hours on Tuesday, in which Rs 20 lakh was recovered. Barik's rice mill was also raided by ED. When the ED team was searching Barik's house and rice mill, another team reached Alif's house and rice mill in Deganga. After about 21 hours of search, two mobile phones, several documents and Rs 13 lakh were seized from his house.
Following this, Barik and the Rehman brothers were summoned to appear at the CGO Complex. Anisur and Alif appeared on Thursday under the same summons. They were arrested late at night.
