Gandhinagar: The central government has given a total of Rs. 4,369 crore. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0) for Gujarat, the central government has approved 188 projects at a cost of Rs. 651 crore.
While under the watershed development component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, the Center has given a total of Rs. 218 crore. This information was given by Raj Bhushan Chaudhary, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Department, in the House on 29 July 2024 in response to a question by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani.
The Minister of State for Jal Shakti also mentioned that under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain programme, 2,855 water harvesting and rainwater harvesting works have been completed in Gujarat, 3,305 traditional reservoirs have been revived and 6,009 reuse and recharge structures have been installed. 15,848 watershed development works have been completed.
Shri Parimal Nathwani wanted to know the details of the activities undertaken at urban and rural level to promote rain water harvesting as well as the allocation of funds under various schemes and whether any incentives are given to the States to promote rain water harvesting.
According to the minister's statement, water conservation through rainwater harvesting is one of the top priorities of the government. Since water is a state government subject, the Centre supports the efforts of states/UTs through technical and financial assistance.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0 Mission Rs. 77,650 crore Out of the sanctioned scheme, a major amount of Rs 39,011 crore has been earmarked for the water supply sector. So far, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has sanctioned about Rs. 3,543 water supply projects costing Rs. 1,13,358.44 crore. Besides, under AMRUT 2.0, MoHUA has sanctioned Rs. 2,713 water reservoir regeneration projects worth Rs. 5432.21 crore.
