New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Thursday) remembered his predecessor Morarjibhai Desai, who became the Prime Minister of the country's first non-Congress government in 1977, on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister paid tribute to him on the Ax handle.
Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Tributes to Shri Morarji Bhai Desai on his birth anniversary.” He is a stalwart of Indian politics, a symbol of honesty and simplicity. He served the country with utmost dedication. This is what I said about him during the last Mann Ki Baat episode.”
It is noteworthy that after ousting Indira Gandhi from power, when the Janata Party formed the first non-Congress government in the country in 1977, he was its Prime Minister. However, he could not remain in office for long and the government fell. Morarji Desai was born on 29 February 1896. He breathed his last on April 10, 1995
