Jitan Sahni, 70, father of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leader Mukesh Sahni, was stabbed to death at his ancestral home in Bihar's Darbhanga district on Tuesday.
Additional Director General (Headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said that two people have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident. The arrests have been made on the basis of CCTV footage installed around the incident site. The activities of these two persons were suspicious.
Confirming the incident, Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy told reporters that a team of senior police officers has reached the spot and is investigating. He said that there are marks of knife attack on Jitan Sahni's body.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar described the murder of Jitan Sahni as extremely sad and expressed his condolences to the victim's family. He has directed the DGP (Director General of Police) to investigate the matter and ensure strict action against the culprits.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, Nitish spoke to former Chief Minister Mukesh Sahni over the phone and consoled him.
According to SSP Reddy, a team of STF has been sent to Darbhanga to assist the local police in the investigation. The help of forensic experts and dog squad is also being taken.
Mukesh Sahni, a former minister of the Bihar government, is the president of the Vikassheel Insaan Party. VIP is an ally of the opposition coalition in India.
