Raipur, 23 June (HS). Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, Bilaspur in collaboration with the State Judicial Academy organized a three-day advanced training program for Chief, Deputy and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Councils appointed in the Legal Aid Defense Council System established in 23 districts of Chhattisgarh State at the State Judicial Academy, Bilaspur.
Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court and Chief Patron of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (SALSA) Justice Ramesh Sinha, while addressing the council as the chief guest, said that it is everyone's responsibility to provide high quality free legal aid to undertrial prisoners and the needy through the Legal Aid Defense Council System. The councils should discharge the responsibilities given to them effectively. He said that all councils should study the new laws that are to be implemented in detail so that proper defense can be ensured on behalf of undertrial prisoners and needy persons.
In the training program, Justice Gautam Bhaduri, Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court and Executive Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority told the councils that the main objective of NALSA and SALSA is to ensure the safety of the innocent and the needy. For this, all the councils appointed in the Defense Council System should not consider their work as employment but should discharge it responsibly as a service work.
Justice Sanjay K. Agarwal, Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court and President of State Judicial Academy, while addressing the councils present, said that the main objective of the new laws, Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act, which will come into force from July 1, is to bring better justice system and social equality and to provide speedy and effective justice to the people.
As per the instructions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), a three-day advanced training program for Chief, Deputy and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Councils appointed in the Legal Aid Defense Council System established in the state is being organized at the State Judicial Academy from 23rd to 25th June, 2024.
Twenty-three Chiefs, thirty-two Deputy Chiefs and fifty Assistant Legal Aid Defense Councils, thus a total of one hundred and five councils are participating in the training program. On the occasion of the inaugural session, Registrar General of Chhattisgarh High Court Balram Prasad Verma, officers of the Registry, Director of Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy Sirajuddin Qureshi, judicial officers and Member Secretary, Deputy Secretary of State Legal Services Authority were specially present.
