New Delhi: In India, common people have suffered a loss of Rs 2,000 crore due to cyber crime in the last three years. The figure of 25,000 crores has also been crossed. This amount is equal to the annual budget of some states, while in a state like Sikkim it is double the budget. In a high-level meeting of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Electronics expressed concern about various social media intermediaries Instagram, WhatsApp and Google.

In this meeting, it was reviewed that cyber frauds worth about Rs 25,000 crores have taken place during the last three years. Last year alone, 27 FIRs were registered on a daily basis for cyber frauds.

In fact, this figure is much less compared to the cases of cyber fraud that have been registered.

Statistics show that from January 2024 to June 2024, the Central Cyber Fraud Agency received 799 complaints in which the victim suffered a loss of more than Rs 1 crore. Thus, the complaints are of loss of more than one crore and the total amount is Rs. 1,421 crore.

A senior official present in the meeting said that the government is working on a system according to which the flow of information is very fast. Currently, companies ask for many types of information in the initial stage. This delays the process of preventing cyber fraud. Fraudsters use social media apps to easily trap victims.

The recent cyber attack on AIIMS is considered to be the world's biggest data leak regarding a loan giving app. The National Cyber Crime Portal (NCRP) has received 31 lakh complaints from 2020 to February 2024. The central government has said that the worrying thing in the case of cyber fraud is that the arrest rate is very low.
