The Kanchenjunga Express going from Agartala to Sealdah collided with a freight train between New Jalpaiguri and Rangapani stations in West Bengal on Monday. So far eight people have been confirmed dead in this accident. More than 25 people have been injured and have been admitted to the hospital. Many leaders including President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over this accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, “My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. He Officials I have spoken to them and have taken stock of the situation. Railway Minister Ashwini has expressed sympathy to the affected people. Vaishnav is also reaching the spot for help. At the same time, after the PM's X post regarding this accident, a post has also been shared by the PMO. It has been announced that the families of each person killed in the train accident will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, while the injured will be given Rs 50,000.
President Draupadi Murmu also tweeted on this accident and said, the news of the death of people in the train accident in Darjeeling, West Bengal is very sad.
