NEW YORK, WASHINGTON: A grand jury in a hush money criminal case unanimously indicted former US President Donald Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up money transactions paid to a porn star to keep her mouth shut before the 2016 presidential election. He has been president before. Trump, 77, created false business records to hide a hush payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election to keep her from speaking about their sexual relationship.
However, his conviction in the case will have no impact on his candidacy in the presidential election in November. Trump is certain to appeal the verdict to the Appellate Division or the state Supreme Court.
The charge was filed in the case on March 30, 2023. After this, the court heard the testimony of 22 witnesses in the case which lasted more than six weeks. In which porn star Danielle Stormy also told about her sexual relationship. Another star witness was Michael Cohen, who was once Trump's lawyer turned enemy. He directly implicated Trump in the secret money scheme. Trump sat silently in court while the unanimous verdict was read after the twelve-member jury deliberated for eleven hours over two days. Prosecutors argued that Trump violated election laws by disclosing the payment as legal expenses. Trump will be sentenced on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At this convention, Trump will be formally nominated as the Republican Party's presidential candidate for the November 5 presidential election.
However, Trump has been released without bail. After the verdict, Donald Trump expressed his anger outside the court and said that it is a shame. The case is already fake, it is being heard by a corrupt judge. He did not let us change the place. The real decision will be given by the public on November 5. People know what happened here. You have a Soros-backed district attorney in front of you and everything is theirs, but we did nothing wrong. I am innocent and that's fine. I am fighting for my country. I am fighting for our Constitution. There is confusion in our entire country. Trump alleged that the Biden administration did this to hurt a political opponent. And I think it is a shame. We will continue to fight. We will fight and win because this country has become hell.
The prosecution in the case had to prove that Trump violated election laws by manipulating business records. The money that Daniels gave to Michael Cohen was borrowed as legal expenses. The decision was welcomed by the Biden-Harris campaign team. He said that today in New York we saw that no one is above the law. Trump mistakenly believed that if he broke the law for his own benefit, he would never have to face consequences. Criminal or not, Trump will remain the Republican presidential candidate. The only way to keep him out of the Oval Office is the ballot box.
