Bedabrata Bharali won gold in men's 73kg weight category | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

New Delhi, May 25 (HS). Bedabrata Bharali of Assam won the gold medal in the men's 73kg category at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Youth Championships in Lima, Peru on Saturday.

Bharali lifted 12 kg more than his competitor who came second and won the gold medal with a total of 296 kg (136 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk), which is 29 kg more than his total weight last year. Last year he finished third in the 67 kg category.

Ryan McDonald of the United States finished second with a total of 284 kg (snatch-125, clean and jerk-159) while Serhiy Kotelevsky of Ukraine finished third with a total of 283 kg (snatch-130, clean and jerk-153).

It was India's second gold of the competition after Pritamita Bhoi topped the women's 40kg and managed to set a clean and jerk youth world record in the process.

Jyoshna Sabar won the silver medal in women's 40 kg and Payal in women's 45 kg. In the men's 49 kg event, Babulal Hembrom of Jharkhand lifted 193 kg (86 107), which helped him secure the bronze medal.
