Monsoon Update: The entire country is currently facing scorching heat, heat wave and heavy rains. People became distressed due to the scorching sun since 9 am. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has given good news regarding monsoon. The Indian Meteorological Department has announced the date of arrival of monsoon in India.
The IMD on Wednesday announced that as per the current climate forecast, the southwest monsoon is expected to enter Kerala around May 31, marking the beginning of the rainy season.
It is noteworthy that monsoon usually reaches Kerala on June 1. After this, till July 15, monsoon rains occur in the entire country. This time it is expected that the rains will start earlier than expected.
The meteorological agency said in its latest forecast that the actual onset could occur between May 27 and June 4. This year, the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala on May 31 with a model error of +/- 4 days.
IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, monsoon is not early. This is close to the normal date. Because, the normal date of arrival of monsoon in Kerala is 1st June.
The southwest monsoon is a seasonal wind pattern that brings significant rainfall to India, which is important for India's agriculture, as it provides most of the country's annual rainfall.
June and July are considered the most important monsoon months for agriculture, as most of the sowing of Kharif crops takes place during this period.
Specifically, the monsoon moves from the south-west, usually reaching Kerala in early June, and withdraws by the end of September. According to IMD, this year the monsoon season is expected to receive more rainfall than normal. Last year, the onset of monsoon on June 8 was delayed by four days from the expected date.
